Enhancing Learning with Sensory Toys at Lidcombe Public School

This year, Lidcombe Public School faces new challenges with incoming kindergarten students who have additional needs but no available spots in special education classes. Due to funding shortages, the school cannot access necessary sensory toys. Responding to this urgent need, the Kiwanis Club of Sydney recently delivered a range of sensory products to support these students. This initiative aims to help the children regulate their emotions and enhance their learning experience in a mainstream classroom setting.

Kiwanis Club of Sydney: Supporting Our Community Schools

At the Kiwanis Club of Sydney, we believe in the power of education and the importance of providing every child with the tools they need to succeed. Last year, we took a significant step in this direction by donating back-to-school packs and sensory toys to Lidcombe Public School. With 900 students and three special education classes, the school openly welcomed these donations. Assistant Principal Lindsay recently shared that the students continue to cherish and utilise their backpacks and sensory toys, which have had a lasting positive impact.

Addressing New Needs in Mainstream Kindergarten Classes

This year, Lidcombe Public School faces new challenges. Several new students with additional needs are enrolling in their mainstream kindergarten classes. Unfortunately, there are no available spots for these students in the school’s special education programs. These children require sensory products to help them regulate their emotions, focus better, and fully participate in their learning experiences.

However, due to funding shortages, the school struggles to acquire the necessary sensory toys for their kindergarten classrooms. Recognising the critical need, Assistant Principal Lindsay and Kindy Teacher Aliyah Colley reached out to us with a modest list of required playground and sensory resources.

Making a Difference: Our Initiative

Committed to supporting our community, Angelique, a dedicated member of the Kiwanis Club of Sydney, took action, carefully shopping for the sensory toys and ensuring their timely delivery to Lidcombe Public School. These items are designed to create an inclusive and supportive environment, catering to the diverse needs of all students and enhancing their learning journey.

Looking Ahead

At the Kiwanis Club of Sydney, we are proud of our ongoing partnership with Lidcombe Public School. Our commitment to fostering inclusive educational environments remains stronger than ever. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in this initiative and look forward to continuing our support for Lidcombe Public School and other educational institutions within our community.

Together, we can help every child achieve their full potential and create a brighter future for all students.
