This past quarter, Kiwanis Sydney was proud to join clubs across Australia in supporting the HeartKids “Two Feet and a HeartBeat” charity walks. Across 29 national events, HeartKids successfully raised over $370,000 to fund vital support for families affected by childhood-onset heart disease (CoHD).
Our volunteers were active at two major Sydney locations: Centennial Park on October 12th and Olympic Park on November 2nd. At both events, our team provided and cooked the BBQ, ensuring walkers were well fed after their journey. Both days were deeply moving, beginning with a memorial ceremony for the “Heart Angels”. Participants then completed either a 4km walk to honour the four children who die each week from CoHD in Australia, or an 8km walk to recognise the eight babies born with a heart defect every single day.
A major highlight of the event was Governor Steve’s presentation of a $20,000 cheque to HeartKids Chairman Rohan Geddes and National Philanthropy Manager Sami Glastonbury. This significant donation from Kiwanis Australian clubs will go directly toward funding primary years and teen transition programs.
A huge thank you to our dedicated volunteers: Vikki, Naz, Katherine, Sinchana, Angelique, Anthony, Belinda, Steve, Cathy, and Namita for their hard work across both events.
